Workshop: Interactive Façades - Light as material

interactivefacadesOn August 6-7, DUL, CAVI and Martin Professional held a workshop on media facades at Danish Design Center (DDC) in Copenhagen. The aim of the workshop was to develop visual and interactive experiments to explore the potentials of large media screens in public space. The experiments were conducted on six large screens – making a total of 24 square meters – installed in the windows at DDC in the center of Copenhagen.

Throughout the two days activities consisted of both lectures, discussions and production of the experiments. The final results were shown at the reception in the evening on friday 6th.

Experiments

thumb_rooms

Rooms

Six brightly coloured rooms shifts in perspective according to the viewing position of one pedestrian on the sidewalk. A white silhuette character follows the position by crawling and jumping through the rooms.

Media >

thumb_sleep

Sleeping woman

The body of a reclining woman is portrayed in full figure across the six screens. As pedestrians walk by she rolls over according to their position on the sidewalk.

Media >

thumb_string

String

A visual experiement on details by combining low resolution video on the LED-screen with high resolution video projected on top of it.

Media >

thumb_earth

Earth

The six screens acting as windows into a view of the earth. A marked zone on the sidewalk enabled users to scroll and zoom the globe by moving from side to side.

Media >

thumb_fisk

Fish

Turning the building into a huge aquarium by adding fish to the screens. One red fish would follow pedestrians walking by.

Media >

thumb_faces

Faces

Six sleeping faces are portrayed along the facade. Each face reacts by screaming at pedestrians when walking by.

Media >

thumb_willfollowyou

WILL FOLLOW YOU

The concept of scrolling marquee signs made interactive. Each line of text follows the movement of pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Media >

thumb_cubes

Cubes

A visual experiment on creating the illusion of a cubic space in each of the six screens.

Media >

thumb_traces

Traces

Pedestrians gets followed by coloured lines and thereby creating traces along the screen. Where colours overlap the colours are blended to makeup additive colours.

Media >

thumb_lightwaves

Light Waves

Three waves move slowly in colours red, green and blue. Where the waves overlap the colours are blended to makeup additive colours.

Media >

thumb_points

Dots

Each pixel on the screen blinks in individual speed creating a pulsating wall off red dots.
