Talkaoke

DUL/Interface Aesthetics has since 2009 been experimenting with the open format Talkaoke, developed by the British artist collective, The People Speak. Together with The People Speak a series a sessions have been set up exploring the business perspective of the media format as a franchise in different cultural settings as well as the possibilities for digital/network art to open a public space in an urban setting using. The settings include Mølleparken (Aarhus, DK), Café Perlen (Gellerup, DK), Skive Beach Party (Skive, DK), COP15 (Copenhagen, DK).

Talkaoke is a live audience controlled, open microphone talk show. From “the UFO of chat” (the Talkaoke table) a talk show host runs a dynamic conversation among ordinary people. Everything is recorded and streamed live on a screen at the setting and on the Internet. The conversation is illustrated with speech bubbles, comments and images from the Internet.

In Talkaoke the conversation between people is spectacular as in a TV show. The purpose is to engage people in conversation in an entertaining way and to let people themselves set the agenda of the public debate spontaneously in an event where everybody learns of and from eachother. The microphone is open and everyone who wishes to participate is invited to sit down at the talkaoke table.
